DIY Herbal Remedy Making Skills Learning Series with Kara

Join Spoonful Herbal’s Kara Buchanan in 2024 to pilot her new “DIY Herbal Remedy Making Skills Series”, offering three, in-person opportunities to learn all the basic herbal preparation techniques, using all available menstruums: water, vinegar, honey, alcohol, glycerine, oil, and the many formulas that can be made from them, such as syrups, oxymels, salves, lotions, and blending tinctures.

These classes will be co-taught by members of our 2024 Herbalist Mentorship Community.

We’ll dive into not only the hows and why’s of making tea, like when to choose the infusion or decoction method, but also, broths, syrups, steams and hydrosols!  We’ll also talk about home setups for drying your herbs for making quality teas all year long.

June 11 - ALL THINGS TINCTURES:  Well discuss techniques for extraction in a variety of menstruums (solvents) including alcohol, vinegar, honey, and glycerine.  Different menstruums extract certain plant constituents better than others, and we’ll discuss the many possibilities, considerations and approaches for working with each of these.

June 25 - INFUSED OILS AND TOPICAL CREATIONS:  Infused oils can be some of the trickiest herbal infusions, but Kara will lend her years of honing her skills and approach to make the process as simple and foolproof as possible for you, yielding potent topical plant medicine that can be made into salves and lotions which will also be demonstrated.
