Herbal Tea Weekend Retreat with Ceramics Artist Sandy Pond and Herbalist Katherine Elmer

Join Ceramics Artist/Host Sandy Pond and Community Herbalist Katherine Elmer for a weekend immersion in the magic and science of herbal tea in the green hills of Central Vermont (unceded Abenaki territory).  Early summer is prime for celebrating the summer aromas of mint, lemon balm and rose as we attune to the growing solar energy of solstice.  Delight your senses with the aromatherapy and herb gardening skills gained in this workshop, and prepare to steep it in your very own new teapot (created with guidance from Sandy) for years to come. This organic certified agrotourism farm offers a studio and gallery, “432HZ house” tea room, an herb shed, hoophouses, and sacred geometry gardens all connected with pathways through pollinator fields.  Immerse yourselves in aromatic, summer bliss with us!!

Dates: June 13th weekend Saturday 10-4pm, Sunday 10-2pm with open ceramics studio time both days, Optional fire ceremony Saturday 8pm

Note: Your teapot will not have time to be fired and glazed to completion by Sunday. There will be options to return to finish or teapot, take it with you with guidance to fire it near your home, OR Sandy can complete it for you for an additional fee.

Facilitator Bios

Sandy is an Age-ing to Sage-ing Mentor and teacher who brings seventy-three years of life experience woven into her daily life. She teaches pottery in her studio or in area schools, and moves with a sense of awe and gratitude for the vegetables and medicinals growing in the hoop houses and gardens. As a nationally certified massage therapist (NCBTMB 2007), Sandy integrates singing bowls, tuning forks combined with Micro Point Stimulation and skills as a "muscle surgeon". She is a Yoga-certified practitioner with grounding in Kabbalah, Continuum Movement and toning. As a lifelong deep listener and creator of "Sacred Space" [20+years, fabric arts, stage production, USA and abroad], Back Roads Farm LLC is "Sacred Space" for you to be nourished in Body and Soul.  The rest is history.

Katherine Elmer is an earth priestess and ceremonialist of Celtic and Nordic descent. She grew up on 130 forested acres in Cabot, VT (Abenaki territory) and revels in the opportunity to connect with folks around a shared love of place and nature through whole foods nutrition and herbal medicine.  She is a clinically-trained community herbalist, a national board certified health and wellness coach at the UVM Health Comprehensive Pain Program through the Osher Center for Integrative Health, and has been teaching courses for nearly 2 decades on Herbal Medicine, Integrative Health and Food Systems topics at the University of Vermont and Vermont State University.  Katherine completed professional herbalism training through the Vermont Center for Integrative Herbalism.  She manages medicinal plant gardens on UVM campus and is the faculty advisor for the UVM student Herbalism Club.  Katherine is founding director and a clinical herbalist at Spoonful Herbals (a local educational non-profit) and co-founder and former co-director of Railyard Apothecary in Burlington.  To learn more, check out community classes and educational resources atwww.spoonfulherbals.org.
